Giving Other DJs Their Moment

Music

There's a thing I do that not everyone notices. During my sets at NSFF, I hand the decks over.

DJ Xavi is one of the guys I've done this for. A friend, a fellow DJ, someone who deserves a moment on a stage like that as much as I do. So during my time, I'll step back and let him play, let him show what he's got in front of a crowd that size.

Some people might ask why. It's my set, my slot, why give any of it away.

Because I remember what it was like before anyone gave me a chance. Playing alone, private gigs here and there, nobody handing me a big stage. Somebody eventually did, and that changed things for me. So if I can do that for someone else, even for twenty minutes on my own time, I will.

It's not a big gesture. But it adds up. And it's part of why this scene, at its best, actually feels like a community and not just a bunch of people competing for the same stage.
