This notice is for anyone who visits LEETHEDEEJAYke (https://leethedeejay.co.ke), books a set, joins the mailing list, or messages Lee. It is written for a small artist site: we collect as little as we need, we say what it is for, and you can ask us to change or delete it.
LEETHEDEEJAYke in Nairobi, Kenya decides how this data is used. Kenyan data protection law (the Data Protection Act, 2019) is the main rule we follow.
What we collect, and when
We only take personal data when you choose to give it, or when the site has to run.
- Bookings and messages. Name, email, subject, and message from the contact form. We send that packet to Lee, and a copy back to the address you typed so you know it landed. If you write on WhatsApp or email, we also see whatever you send on that channel, plus your number or address.
- Newsletter. Email address, so we can send updates you asked for, plus a one-off confirmation that the signup worked.
- Technical extras the host needs. IP address, browser, and which pages loaded — typical server logs, kept to keep the site stable and to limit spam on the form.
- Analytics, if switched on. If a Google Analytics measurement ID is configured, Google may collect page views, approximate location, device type, and events such as form sends or WhatsApp / phone / email clicks. That data is processed by Google outside Kenya. We use it to see what people actually use, not to sell ads. You can block it with a browser privacy tool or by refusing third-party cookies.
- On your device. A local flag so the upcoming-event notice does not pop up again for a while after you close it. That value is not sent to us.
We do not ask for ID numbers, payment cards, or location beyond what you type into a form. Do not send sensitive details you would not want in an email inbox.
Why we use it
Each use is tied to a reason:
- Reply to a booking or question — because you asked us to (contract / your request).
- Send a copy of that message to your inbox — so you can see what we received.
- Send the newsletter — because you signed up (consent). You can stop any time.
- Stop form abuse and keep the site working — legitimate interest in a usable, safe site.
- Understand which pages and booking paths people use — legitimate interest, only if Analytics is on.
We do not sell lists, and we do not profile you for ads.
Who else might see it
A message has to travel through tools we use. They only get what they need to do that job:
- Email delivery (currently Resend) to put contact and newsletter mail in Lee’s inbox.
- The company that hosts this website, for logs and uptime.
- WhatsApp if you tap the chat button — that conversation sits with Meta’s WhatsApp, not on our servers.
- SoundCloud, Instagram, YouTube, and Google Maps when those players or the map load. They apply their own policies. Skip those pages if you do not want that.
Some of those providers store data outside Kenya. We only use them where they are needed to run the site or to answer you.
How long we keep it
Booking threads stay until the gig is done and a short follow-up window has passed, unless you ask us to delete sooner. Newsletter addresses stay until you unsubscribe. Server logs are rotated by the host and are not kept as a marketing file. WhatsApp history follows whatever you and WhatsApp keep on that app.
Your choices
You can ask us to:
- show you what we hold about you
- correct it
- delete it, where we do not still need it to finish a booking or meet a legal duty
- stop newsletter mail
- restrict or object to a use that is not strictly required
Write to bookings@leethedeejay.co.ke or use the contact form. If you are not satisfied, you can complain to Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
Children
This site is aimed at people who can book or attend events. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you think we have, tell us and we will delete it.
When this notice changes
If the site starts collecting something new, or a tool changes, we will update this page and the date at the top. Check back if you care about the detail. For a change that really affects you, and where we have your email, we will try to say so directly.
